UNDERWORLD:iphone app,back catalogue release & live gig

August is an Apple month for Underworld

August 2009 sees Underworld and Apple kicking-off on three exciting new projects for fans of the band and fans of all things Apple.

To celebrate the release of the full underworld back catalogue for the first time on iTunes, Underworld, in partnership with cutting edge developer iZotope, bring you an amazing iPhone iDrum application containing some of the most famous tunes from Underworld's juke box of techno classics.

Featuring tracks from all Underworld's albums and including "Born Slippy", "Two Months Off" and "Cowgirl" the application allows the user to remix, re-sequence and reconstruct 12 Underworld tunes and also features a piece created by the band themselves exclusively for the application.

With specially commissioned artwork from Tomato's John Warwicker the application is the closest you'll get to dropping the kick drum on "Born Slippy" without getting on stage with the guys yourself. In celebration, Underworld are giving away a special live version of "Born Slippy" recorded at Brixton Academy and (technology permitting!) the worlds first FREE live audio-visual broadcast to the iPhone on Friday August 7th 2009 as Underworld continue their series of incredible live broadcasts at The Fox Oakland Theater.

Direct from the Fox Theatre in Oakland and accessible through Underworldlive.com check out the bands legendary show featuring some of the biggest dance hits of the last 15 years and maybe some future hits for 2010.

This is completely free and all you need is a computer with Quick Time installed on a broadband connection or an iPhone on a wi-fi connection running iPhone 3.0 or higher.

Exclusive Download: Born Slippy live at Brixton Academy
HERE

So with the iTunes release, the application and the live concert there's never been a better time to check out Underworld and find out what the dance world's known for years...Underworld... leaders of the pack.

Amadou and Mariam to play London HMV Forum in December

Amadou & Mariam

Live at HMV Forum 3rd December

Amadou & Mariam have confirmed a show at HMV Forum on 3rd December. The appearance will cap an incredible year for the duo, during which they performed on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, supported Blur at Hyde Park, toured the US with Coldplay and sold out their own shows at The Roundhouse and other venues across the country. Amadou & Mariam, who perform alongside Damon Albarn, Patrick Wolf and Jamie T at an Afrika Express event in Paris next week, will return to the UK on 9th August to play at the Big Chill Festival.

Thurs 3rd December, HMV Forum, Kentish Town, London
Advance tickets (£17.50) available from Ticketmaster 0844 8472405 and www.comono.co.uk

Over the last few years albums such as ''Welcome to Mali'' and ''Dimanche à Bamako'' have taken Amadou and Mariam on an epic journey that has made the couple the best-selling - and best-loved - act to come out of Africa in recent years. Along the way they have worked and performed with the likes of Damon Albarn, Manu Chao, Scissor Sisters and their music has been enthusiastically embraced by Western rock fans. One minute they're being remixed by Theophilus London, a 22 year-old streetwise hip-hip kid from Brooklyn. The next minute, Pink Floyd guitar legend David Gilmour is sitting in with them on stage.

All this has been achieved while remaining true to their roots and without compromising their authenticity. Their unique mix of unforgettable pop melodies and contagious rhythms, driven by Amadou's bluesy electric guitar and the compelling interplay of their two voices may have its roots deeply planted in Africa. Yet this is music for the world, rather than 'world music'. Music that effortlessly transcends classification or genre and vaults the fickle dictates of fad and fashion. Music that remains as popular across Africa as it has now become in Europe and America.

Lethal Bizzle is set to release the second single to be taken from his forthcoming third album. “Going Out Tonight”, which has already received plays from Radio 1’s Zane, will be released on Sept 21st 09 on the Search and Destroy label, on CD, as well as a download bundle. Bizzle has also just announced 6 shows around the UK in October, in addition to his appearance at the Reading and Leeds festivals.

Quoted by the Guardian as the 'best known rapper in the indie scene', Lethal has been embraced by rock’s elite- working with Babyshambles and Gallows in the studio. His new album “Go Hard” will be released on 3, and includes work with producers Donaeo, Mark Ronson, Dexplicit, Youngstar and Gallows

Lethal Bizzle is the most prolific, exciting rapper to emerge from the UK underground scene. Bizzle was swiftly signed to V2 Music to release his solo grime debut album Against All Oddz, released in mid-2005. His next set of singles, including "Uh Oh! (I'm Back)," and “Fire” also made it onto the UK charts and paved the way for his solo debut, establishing him as one of the UK's most popular underground artists.

The Video for his last single “Go Hard” was the 9th most watched video on MTV online, - MTV also hosted a Lethal Bizzle day. Radio 1’s Maida Vale sessions will air a session from Bizzle on Wednesday 29th July.

Introducing: Motion Picture Soundtrack
Departure EP September 7th
on End Game

One to watch out for XFM

Utterly glorious throughout...Listen to it.

Wallow in it. Bathe in it. This is gorgeous stuff BBC Introducing

A band that should definitely be heard Kerrang! Radio

Based in Canterbury, at the heart of the garden of England, Motion Picture Soundtrack deftly weave engaging lyrics and powerful moving melodies into their deep dark rock tapestry. At times gentle, at others fiercely driven, the result is uplifting, yet realistic, euphoric and beautiful.

Presented here on this short 3 track EP is the perfect introduction to a band that haven't rushed themselves into putting out release after release. Instead, they've spent 18 months with Hugh Jones (Echo and the Bunnymen, I am Kloot) and Dan Austin (Doves, Massive Attack, Oceansize) perfecting their forthcoming debut album, 'The Shapes We Fear Are Of Our Own'. Recorded in Copenhagen, London & the U.S, with Paul Schroeder (The Stone Roses, The Verve), Cenzo Townshend (Editors, Bloc Party, Klaxons) & Bob Ludwig (RATM, Radiohead, Tool...) the band's sonic theatrics have been perfectly committed to record.

Lead single Departure conjures thoughts of a band pursuing an engaging, modern take on the 80s shoegaze of such luminaries My Bloody Valentine, with just enough soaring melody to compliment any distorted guitars. As the track's brasher chorus erupts in the wake of tumbling piano keys, Motion Picture Soundtrack assert themselves as not only masters of the crescendo but excellent at uniting thoughtful tender moments with out and out crushing rock. The manifesto is to create music that is big enough to move mountains but that can equally speak with a hushed intimacy. It’s intricate, but under the band’s complete control, and made to seem effortless.

Watch Departure video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXeUDn4GyKc

2009 sees the band fulfilling the promise of that first XFM review. The sonic swirling of their sound draws a definitive line between the patient, brooding and stylistic MPS, a band with real staying power, and the countless fly by night acts that clog up much of the community. With people across the UK taking a deeper interest in their work and an ever-increasing number of fans discovering the power of the live show, they are truly a band to connect with. The coming year could well be theirs.
